Sketchbook Series Starts Now!

 Jellyfish Ahoy

Our new feature on the blog is here!  On alternate weeks Kayla and I will be sharing our sketchbooks.  Which means weekly updates on the blog, motivation for us both, and probably some friendly competition too.

Now the idea of posting these updates weekly seemed like a fantastic idea at the time, until I decided to jump in for the first week (big mistake) but I did manage to get quite a lot of drawing done the last few days.

I even brought new pencils...

As it turns out both Kayla and I are really competitive, and this has turned out to be a great tool over our uni years (motivation for deadlines etc) so we're hoping to continue that here.

I decided to start my sketchbook off with something I love - jellyfish!  I also ended up using loose sheets of paper for a few of my drawings, which I'm going to attach into my sketchbook somehow.

I have this great idea in my head of this 'bursting at the seams' sketchbook filled with tonnes of drawings and experiments.  Then when I run out of pages I can do a huge 'recap' style blog post, but that's way off into the future for now.

Jellyfish Goodness!
There are not as many drawings as I hoped there would be.  But next week will be Kayla's turn, giving me nearly two weeks to get stuck into this for the next blog post.

I find sketchbooks a great place to test out new techniques and/or materials.  The coloured images above were all pencil, apart from the last jellyfish (the green one below) which I coloured with fine liner pens, unfortunately they bled and the lines went really fuzzy on the paper I was using.
But it's all a learning experience.

Got any recommendations on materials or processes you'd like to see us try in future weeks?
Let us know in the comments below.
