Out with the Old

I have some cute inky mark-making trial and error type 'drawings' today and of course some little castles.  But mostly I have a new game plan.

Absolutely Blank

As the title might be a give away - I have a confession I have barely picked up a pen/ pencil this last couple of weeks due to sorting my room (becoming more than an ordeal at the moment) having another stinking cold (leaving me with zero motivation to do anything).

As I have no pictures to post all I can post is my plan for November (hoping the room will be sorted by then) due to the pure anger I have at myself for missing inktober I am going to set myself my own challenge - every day of November I have to cover a side of A4 in doodles. I will post each one in the evening of the day after on my personal blog and of course group them all for my fortnightly post on here.

Again apologies for being useless this week :(

Changes to my Sketchbook

So if you follow me on twitter you already know the struggles I've had getting this post written and uploaded!  But along the way I decided I wanted to spice up my sketchbook a little - I wanted to fill up each page a little more.

More doodles of my mind...

Right so I haven't done as much as I would have liked - and I will probably go back and add bits to some of these pages but here we go...

A little bunch of pages

Apologies for the shocking photos there isn't great light in my room - really need to get a lamp that isn't pink. Due to this I have had to take close ups of the second piece I am working on as it was a complete blurry mess as one.

I have had to stop this one for a while as it is beginning to look like a swan in my opinion - and I am not really sure where to go with it either...

These are the ones that are close ups - I will try get a better one for the next post - should have done a lot more by this point to - really want to put a phrase in this one but not sure what one to use,

Ink Splattered but not yet drawn on

Haha like my pun with the title? (I did)

So I managed to ink up a good amount of pages in my sketchbook this week, but I've struggled way to much with what to draw on these beautiful inky marks.

Paper over sketchbook

Back to the paper for me - partly because I have misplaced my sketchbook and partly because I am struggling with the 'in a book' process. I am as usual trying to do too many ideas at once one being that I am attempting to design some papercut ideas this one below being the first (I know I need to do the writing backwards - I am just playing with the writing at the moment).

Wednesday, 3 September 2014

I kept my promise to Kayla and finally got round to writing this post today.  A whole three days too late!

I'm starting college this week, so I'm hoping this new timetable will have some positive effects on my posts here, especially as I really want to start making blog posts more often.

Monday, 25 August 2014

Right so I will admit I did zero drawings the last two weeks and then told Emma I would do some quilling last night instead to post - ha well this didn't happen either.

So here are a couple of quick sketches taken from magazine inspiration to give me an idea or a starting point for a fairy papercut I want to design and make.

Sketchbook and... Origami?

So the last two weeks have been pretty eventful for me as my not-so-smart-smart phone decided to break, so while he's been hanging out with the tech-genius's at O2 I've been lumbered with a loan phone aka fossil phone.

Needless to say this sucked as I spend way to much time on my phone reading blogs, searching through tumblr and checking facebook that when it was taken away I was lost.  Now I can see any naive readers thinking that this somehow means I've done loads of sketchbook pages.... Sorry but not the case! Because I have also been drawing the worst luck at work with the rotas!

Sunday, 10 August 2014

This last couple of weeks has been a complete and utter disaster as far as my sketchbook has gone. Completely at my wits end with it - also wanted to get a wreck it journal I have been eyeing up for ages... then came round to getting it and received the worst customer service ever that I refused to buy it and stormed out of the shop (won't be going back there ever again!)

After the disappointment of this I have done barely anything :( therefore ended up going back to my abstract flower drawings -

The 'Sorry I'm Late' Sketchbook

Oh what's that... nearly a whole week late! Yeah I'm sorry.  Let me make up for it with cute ink castles.

See look how cute those inky splashes are, follow the jump for more.

Abstract Manifestations and Doodles

So again my post is late *bad Kayla* I have been really struggling to do anything - my lunch breaks involve me sitting staring at the same half done page rarely even making a single mark.

So in two weeks here is how this page has progressed -

Fresh Start; Starting a 'New' sketchbook

As I'm sure you gathered from my last post, I finished my sketchbook... Finally!  By the end I started to loose motivation with that book as I felt it was a bit all over the place. So this last week I've been searching for inspiration of what to do in a new sketchbook.

I had been putting of drawing anything in this new book until I had a plan for it, or at least a theme to tie it all together in the hopes that it would give me motivation right to the last page this time.  Then Kayla posted her new sketchbook and an idea hit me! (She mentioned hating leaving sketchbooks unfinished)

Forget my new sketchbook I brought, that can wait! What if I went back and finished a sketchbook.  Genius! I know!

So I dug around my boxes of sketchbooks and found one from my last year at university that for whatever reason was never finished.  Now I've decided that I'm also going to add to some the drawings already in there to.
Although if this was the 5th sketchbook that year it explains why it wasn't finished.

Too little too late...

So I know this is a day late ... so you're probably expecting more than what you are actually going to see. I apologise in advance - bad Kayla.

So to start off this extremely long post (not) here is the next page of my quote/ word sketchbook - unsure of what colour to fill this in with thinking yellow may be too cliche?

Finishing a Sketchbook; and late updates...

Let's start this post with an apology... Yes it's nearly a week overdue, and yes I apologize. As I'm sure you can guess by the title I finished a sketchbook this week, and then had some stupid internet technical difficulties.  Since then I admit it's been down to a mix of my lazyness and lack of time due to starting a new job.

Excuses, excuses. I know!

But here comes another one.....

All new doodle sketchbooks

So, here it goes I ditched the other sketchbook and started a new one - to be fair I have only done two pages of this sketchbook so far that are finished - there are another five started (got an idea for the next after starting previous - bad habit which must be controlled hehe)

Here is the first page - Emma will know my circle obsession too well  and probably understand the importance of this as a first page for me.

Sketchbook Update; it's nearly finished!

After that incident where a sketchbook was destroyed damaged, I started to collage the pages that I managed to save into a new book and draw on the remaining pages.

You guessed it! This worked out in my favor as now there's only a handful of pages left!!

I'm already making plans for a new sketchbook, using this blog as a way to pressure me into working on something each week has been great at getting me motivated, but I felt that this book was/is going all over the place.  So I'm planning some ideas to get me trying out new ideas and materials too.

Goodbye old sketchbook *waves*

Right my last couple of weeks have been hard work - but no excuses for the lack of work I hold my hands up I have not done much at all *sad face* - except a tattoo design which has been occupying my attention.

Due to terrible motivation I have decided that you are about to see the final drawings for my current sketchbook as I started a new one today for a fresh start (by start I mean I located one in the mess that is my art piles). I will hopefully start drawing tomorrow *fingers crossed*

Hopefully where this one has come to a bit of a dead end and put a fair few of my other mini drawing projects to an end, the new one is for different things like a whole sketchbook of doodles maybe - using my new pens hehe.

Dilema! (sketchbook troubles)

My sketchbook had a rough time this week...

Long story short, the pages got crushed by my water bottle in my bag.  You know how all books have those amazing covers you know to 'protect' the pages, yeah that's were my water bottle snuggled itself into an optimized place of destruction.

I'd like to say that I'm devastated, but honestly I'd had enough of the paper quality of this sketchbook about three days after starting it.  I am sad to loose some of the drawings in there (I managed to save quite a few though) my plan now is to use a half use a new sketchbook* and collage into it the pages I managed to save, and start fresh!

Spirograph comes to my sketchbook

So the other week I won a spirograph set at a fair - being the child I am decided to relive my childhood and go spirograph crazy here are a few of the patterns I created that I fell in love with:

UCA Farnham Fine Art Degree Show - An Overview.

To kick-off our new blog segment 'Our Humble Opinion' I visited the degree show at the university that Kayla and myself attended, it seemed like a nice way to start this new review blog segment and ended up being a nostalgic trip for me.

Works from Left to Right: Louise Scillitoe-Brown, Ann Miller, Flo Yapp and Jay Sparks.

Although I only managed to see the Fine Art degree show, all the universities courses are displaying their final works.  Here's a link to the UCA website with more details on the show, and all the important dates.  The show runs until the 6th of June and I really recommend going. (I'm considering a second visit.)

As a disclaimer of sorts this installment post covers as much of the fine art course's degree show as I can manage, so it's more of an overview of the show than a detailed review.

So that this blog post doesn't become dissertation worthy in length (and possibly induce some horrifying flashbacks for any of the graduating artists who may be reading this) I've kept a lot of my musings short and sweet.

Traveled Drawings

Due to a little side-project I've got going on I really slacked on my sketchbook drawings this week.  Ive got a bunch of drawings that I've been working on on the way to various places.

I often draw when traveling by train, and as I was on quite a few of those last Friday here's the photos of those sketchbook pages.

Few more flowers

So I have done not a lot this last week if I am completely honest - the two main things I have been working on can't be shown yet and aren't sketchbook

This is one of my odds and sods pages where I brainstorm random little ideas that can be used for bigger images and ideas -

Doodled Sketchbook

Super quick update from me this week.
I've been working on a couple of different projects recently and so I'm trying to save up the photos from those for a blog post dedicated just to that project.  Plus I love looking back at the first doodles and ideas alongside the finished canvas/painting/drawing, there's something really satisfying about it.

I added some coloured pencil seaweed drawings... adding to my obsession.

Abstract flowers sketchbook

So for the last two weeks I can only be described as being easily distracted - thus there has been a lack of creative juices flowing... I started trying to improve of my doodles by adding new ideas and processes to it - like shaded areas and detail lines:

Really want to add a dash of colour to the doodles

Feather Focused Sketchbook

I was so close to having some really smart alliteration in this blog post title... alas.

The last few weeks for me have been a bit manic for me but after receiving some exciting news from the college. I'll share more about that in a few weeks, don't want to jinx anything do I? I have had a sudden burst of motivation.

Sketchbook break-through

Right so I am feeling very inspired and driven at the moment. And it is all thanks to this little guy who has been manifesting at work:

Flower-Filled Sketchbook

Having nice weather recently has caused me to want to draw almost nothing but flowers.  Unfortunately due to some crazy overtime I took on I haven't had much chance to get any real time to draw.

One drawing I am really excited about is this one,

I'm still working on it, but I find something really calming about just focusing on shadow and light.

A Lack of drawings

This post will be considerably shorter than my other due to starting a new job. However at the end of my second week I am starting to get into more of a routine so hopefully I hold more hope for my next post!

So you may remember teddy from two weeks ago... he got himself a balloon!

Sketchbook Update, 'better late than never'

First a huge apology for this not being uploaded yesterday.
Half way through writing this post I lost the internet.  I tried to use this blogger app thingy on my phone but I could not get that to do what I wanted.

Sketchbook Stuff

So here it is my turn to show off my week of sketchbook (folder of random pieces of paper). As Emma has been warned I have been struggling to work in a sketchbook since leaving uni so after finding a nice plastic box folder and destroying a pad of paper into sheets I have created a makeshift 'sketchbook'!

I shall start with my latest little doodle (yesterday's lunch time at work) saying 'hi' is Fred the Teddy

Sketchbook Series Starts Now!

 Jellyfish Ahoy

Our new feature on the blog is here!  On alternate weeks Kayla and I will be sharing our sketchbooks.  Which means weekly updates on the blog, motivation for us both, and probably some friendly competition too.

Now the idea of posting these updates weekly seemed like a fantastic idea at the time, until I decided to jump in for the first week (big mistake) but I did manage to get quite a lot of drawing done the last few days.

I even brought new pencils...

Birthday Card Frenzy

Recently I've really been wishing to get stuck into some sketchbook work and produce some pages to the same level I had been at university.  However I've since discovered this time of year is full of birthdays in our family/friends calenders.  As such I've been called upon to make a bucket load of birthday cards the last two weeks.

Messy work top, you'd never find Kayla in these conditions.

Quilling comes to Ink Splatter Draw

Right, so this is my first post on here. Big thanks to Emma for giving me the motivation and coming up with the idea to team up!! Much love!!

So, I finally completed my first quilling piece (took me long enough) so here it is...

Balloons, Birthday Cards and Resolutions

Been busy this week with last minute valentine planning for next week and *cough* last minute gifts *cough*  so this is just a quick update.

My brother asked for a birthday card to give to his friend this week which set me into a panic about how the hell do I make a card for a boy... and the despair that came from not being able to use my new flower punches was too much to handle.  Until I found my balloon punch that is.

Yup I punched more balloons than I will probable ever need.

Butterfly Canvas Prep. Work.

With all my energy going into major craft mode and focusing so much (too much?) on making valentine cards and getting my social media sites up and running I've kinda been all over the place and let my blogging slide.  Sorry about that!  But that Stops NOW!

A friend recently sent me a photo of some wall art she's fallen in love with and given me a colour scheme (I'll let you figure that out from the photos in this post) and a canvas....
